March and April brought a lot of fun moments for NYC FurMeets. With another FurWalk happening soon, let's look back at what happened the past couple months and what there is to look forward to!

I hope everyone’s early springtime has been good, after the chilly weather we had at the start of the year! It’s gotten a little warmer these past two months, but ‘twas still chilly on most of those days. What did NYC Furmeets do during that time? Some really fun things, that’s what!

FurFeast 4 @ 99 Favor Taste Hot Pot: 7 March 2026

Starting off on the 7th of March, a bunch of furs went to 99 Favor Taste downtown on Grand Street for FurFeast 4. I was out that weekend and sadly couldn’t make it to the hotpot place, but Joey Tesseracts, who runs FurFeasts, can explain in my stead.

We had almost 30 people show up to fill 3 huge tables on the second floor for unlimited hotpot, meaning unlimited broth, beef, pork, vegetables, dumplings, and sauce

“We had almost 30 people show up to fill 3 huge tables on the second floor for unlimited hotpot, meaning unlimited broth, beef, pork, vegetables, dumplings, and sauce,” he wrote to me. “It was a good venue especially for furries who never had hotpot before. Some tried hotpot for the first time, with furries sharing with other furries what they like to do in their customized hot pot. Although everyone had their individual pot, it was a very communal experience where we bonded over the same ingredients, shared our favorite recipes, and made new friends! Notably, we also chose the place as we thought soup would be perfect for a historically cold winter for NYC.”

FurWalk 13 @ High Line: 21 March 2026

Then on the 21st was the third attempt at walking on the High Line this year. If you recall, the anniversary of FurWalk 0 (which walked on the High Line) was postponed because of the cold weather, only for it to be then shortened to just cover the pigeon statue section, and finally that portion cut out entirely the night before it was held, again for the cold weather. This time, weeks later, it was a success.

Like last year, the walk consisted of starting in the square west of Moynihan Train Hall, across 9th Avenue. Though unlike then, the pigeon statue was too busy with people for its imminent decommissioning. So the route went up toward 33rd Street and to the Vessel instead. A lot of new faces came, including a full fursuiter shark visiting from Vermont. The group walked from the Vessel, down the often narrow strip that is the High Line, and made a pit stop at the observation deck spanning 10th Avenue. Bystanders seemed to have a good time, watching us, or ignoring the spectacle completely. Just another day in New York City, maybe?

The end point for the walk was at Pier 53, stepping off the southern end of the High Line, on a nice beach-like outdoor space reclaimed from the river. As the moon rose on the sunny lukewarm afternoon, a group photo was taken. A dozen or so people then split off to go to have a late lunch at Chelsea Market. In all, 83 people came to the walk. Having happened almost exactly a year from when FurWalk 2 was nostalgic, as it was my first NYC Furmeets event that I went to, and the subject of the second furry news article I wrote.

FurBar 8 @ Ontario Bar: 31 March 2026

On the very last day of March, FurBar 8 was held at the Canadian-themed Ontario Bar, in Brooklyn. It was a fun, if small, group. Just hours later, April 1st rolls around, and NYC Furmeets becomes Los Angeles Furmeets, in what is regarded as a tragic misstep for the organizers, who were shamed by the community for choosing a car-centric city as their next project. The group backed down following the community backlash.

FurWalk 14 @ Prospect Park: 11 April 2026

I wish this was going on in my 20s!

But the biggest and greatest of April was on the 11th, with FurWalk 14. Going back to Prospect Park, 94 furs came to enjoy a beautiful day in Brooklyn. We walked from Grand Army Plaza into the expansive park, where thousands and thousands of other people were enjoying the sun and warmth—and unexpectedly to see a string of people in animal costumes. (The same morning, a New York Times videographer was there for an unrelated story.)

Midway through, a large block of time was dedicated to just… relaxing. And what a day to do so; the weather could not have been nicer. Furs tossed frisbees and played around. A few practiced our spins and catching footballs. It was incredibly lively, and I’d rate it as my favorite walk I’d ever gone to. Someone pulled out a small train set; Zane threw cash of a foreign currency (Swedish krona) in the middle of it, for some reason. From what I could tell, everyone else was taking a much-needed breather from all that’s going on in the world and in our lives.

Remarks on FurWalk 14

I spoke with a few furs who hadn’t been to many NYC FurMeets events, whose faces were new to me. One fur named Rouka/FoxBat told me that he had attended a FurWalk in the city about five years ago; this was the first time being at a city furmeet in years. He exclaimed, “I wish this was going on in my 20s!”

Arkis Husky, a fur who wore his full fursuit that day (pictured below), is a resident of Long Island. He remarked that the group was very nice and friendly. Two people mentioned that they had been invited to these walks through a friend. All reported having a good time.

After passing a wedding in the park in the final stretch, the walk ended around 5pm. By then, a good fraction of furs had dropped off, but the regulars remained, chatting one another up. We learned more about each other, and spoke of what we were doing with our days. The temperature was past its peak then, but the sun still carved out a brilliant orange glow through the trees. If you missed it, I’m sorry, that walk was the one to go to.

Press Start Orchestra Concert: 16 April 2026

Just a few days later, a few furs came to Press Start Orchestra to see Zane and others perform tunes—from, you guessed it, video games—at Holy Apostles Church, downtown. (Fursuits were not permitted to be worn inside the venue.)

FurBar 9 @ All Night Skate: 21 April 2026

And a few days after that was FurBar 9 at All Night Skate, a bar that I naively assumed also was a skating rink. (I quite liked the fruity cider!)

Concluding Remarks from Eberra

To cap this blog post off, I’m in the mood to say my thanks to everyone in the New York City furry scene for being such great people. Not just those who come to the NYC FurMeets events, but those also in NYFurs and LIFurs, who host Phoenix Bark and Round1 meets, respectively, and to the organizers of Growl. As someone who does not work to help plan, run, and execute events—I’m a journalist who plans on continuing to write about this community for years to come, steadfastly holding my independence—thank you all for what you’ve been doing.

For May, there’s FurWalk 15 walking around Central Park in more or less the same route as last year. It's actually happening tomorrow from the date of this blog coming out!

And there was the one-year anniversary of FurBar, returning to its inaugural bar, Mama Tired in Brooklyn. The bar was be on Tuesday the 19th, and the walk on the 23rd. Hudson Valley Furs is partnering to have a FurRide on Metro North to Grand Central for the walk. And keep an eye on the NYC Pride March in June, which will be capped to 100. See you all there.

More to look forward to?

While the NYC FurMeets staff Is still planning for the summer, be on the lookout for other activities such as FurThrift, a picnic, and maybe a revisit to Coney Island!
